Recently, our PM has just launched, or should i say "unveiled" the all new, 1Malaysia Chopper.
This particular bike, was hand crafted by the famous OCC (Orange County Choppers), in which they have their own reality TV show in Discovery Channel.
I have always liked to watched the series, "American Chopper" as it was all about building creative bikes, and the humour which slots perfectly well within the series.
However, to my personal opinion, this time OCC seems to be not kicking their minds right. The bike actually looks kinda hilarious, with some stock looking old school bike and a few colours painted to supposedly match the "Jalur Gemilang", or the Malaysian Flag.
The front headlights looks a bit toy-ish, and the yellow "star" on the tank doesn't look much like a star it was supposed to be, and more like a cartoon hair on the Saturday morning cartoon show. I guess the in-house painter within the OCC doesn't get the whole idea of "Jalur Gemilang" to be correctly interpreted into the bike. I bet Paul JR Designs would have been created a more creative bike. This one looks too dull to be a product of OCC.
To my nationality point of view, one thought has crossed my mind. Why do we need a pure american company, to build a pure american chopper, with 1Malaysia name on it? I guess the people at Tourism Malaysia must have been a great fan of OCC, but hey, there's nothing "Malaysia" in this bike, except for the amount of RM converted to USD used to pay for this bike. Rumours has it that the bike costs nearly USD40k (or probably more? .. which is the average price of a custom OCC bike). This is just rumours however. Only Tourism Malaysia can confirm the price of the bike.
Yes, having the OCC to build a custom 1Malaysia Chopper to promote Malaysia is a good initiative, but i think they should have called a Malaysian bike expert to assist OCC to personalize the bike so that it looks purely "Malaysia". If they did so, then that guy must have been a clown, because the bike looks silly. Whoever approved this custom bike design to OCC must have been a fan of Saturday Morning Cartoon. I don't blame OCC and Paul Sr. though, they were just trying to understand us, and Malaysia as a whole. Blame should go on the guy who approves this design and concept from OCC. Lol.
Nevertheless, i think Malaysian Custom Chopper builder could have make better custom choppers with that amount of RM thrown in to them. Or better yet, make a competition of the best 1Malaysia custom bike between the Malaysian bike builders, and film it, then send it to Discovery. That would have created a better ROI in my opinion.
According to some flying sources in the net, the 1Malaysia Chopper episode of the American Choppers would be on air on April 30th and May 7th. This is one episode I'd be looking forward to.
1Malaysia Chopper made by the American Choppers.. so cliché.
